Year 1 – Foundational Principles of God’s Call to Ministry

The purpose of Year 1 is to:

  • Instill a spirit of faith through teaching

  • Promote principles of excellence, discipline, and organization

  • Teach effective methods of using Biblical study tools

Students enrolled in Year 1 will take the following courses:

Christian Apologetics 1

Christian Apologetics explores the branch of theology that is concerned with defending and proving the truth of Christian doctrine. What do we believe as Christians? Why do we believe it, and how do we live it out? These are the major points this course will examine.

Divine Health

Divine Health explores God’s will as it relates to sickness and disease, and it provides an in-depth study of the origin of sickness and scriptural methods of healing.

Dynamics of Prayer

Dynamics of Prayer emphasizes prayer as the foundation of the Christian lifestyle. It also explores the reasons Christians should pray, and the benefits of a strong prayer life.

Hermeneutics 1

Hermeneutics 1 introduces students to various resources and methods for studying the Bible.

Jesus in the Old Testament

Jesus in the Old Testament provides a systemic overview of the “types and shadows” of Jesus Christ, as represented in the books of the Old Testament.

Principles of Faith

Principles of Faith provides an overview of the Biblical fundamentals of faith and its importance. It also answers the questions: “How does faith work?” and “How is faith developed?”

Prosperity

Prosperity examines Biblical prosperity and its relation to every area of the Christian’s life. In addition, it examines the will of God’s concerning prosperity.

The Authority of the Believer

The Authority of the Believer emphasizes that spiritual authority is delegated to every believer, and that understanding authority is an important key to effective ministry.

Understanding God’s Call to Ministry

Understanding God’s Call to Ministry answers the vital questions: “Who is called?”, “What is a call?”, and “What attributes are necessary to fulfilling the call?”

Academic Dean: Elder Samuel Clover, III

Elder Samuel Clover, III (aka Elder Sam) joined Faith City Central (formerly Spirit of Faith Christian Center) in September 2002. Elder Sam was called to the teaching ministry and was ordained as an Elder in 2019.

Elder Sam is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), where he received his Bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in African American Studies. While at UMCP, he became a member of New Generation Campus Ministries (NGM), serving as both treasurer and later president of the UMCP chapter. He is also a 1996 graduate of the NGM Leadership Training School in Atlanta, GA, which trains young men and women in leadership skills with Christ-centered values and bibliocentric principles.

Elder Sam became an educator in 1999, where he has taught in private Christian and charter schools. Currently, he is a certified DC Public Schools elementary educator at Dorothy I. Height Elementary School. Elder Sam also leads several afterschool clubs and serves as the school’s social media director.

Elder Sam is a 2007 graduate of Spirit of Faith Bible Institute (SOFBI) and was honored as the Outstanding Scholar. After graduating, Elder Sam became a Licensed Minister in 2008 and served the Institute as an Administrative Assistant, Instructor, and Lead Instructor. In 2024, Elder Sam was installed as the Academic Dean for Year 1. Additionally, Elder Sam serves Faith City Central in several capacities: as Director of the Personal Prayer Ministry, Faith City Youth Choir Chaplain, and Lead Campus Elder at the Brandywine campus of FCC.

Elder Sam has been married to Minister Natasha H. Clover since May 13, 2000 and they have three beautiful children: Nathan, Nia, and Nylah. His interests include spending time with family and friends, drawing, creating art, and reading. Elder Sam is a native of the DMV and a lifelong Commanders/Redskins fan.
